Since 2005, people in Narsinghpur and Fatehpur villages affected by arsenic have been using purified water introduced by CDIP. In 2001, CDIP, under a project supported by the Department of Public Health Engineering and UNICEF, undertook an activity to identify arsenic and increase public awareness in Nabinagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria district and successfully completed this work in 219 villages, 21 unions and one municipality of this upazila by December this year. Later, in 2003, the second phase of this project, arsenic removal program was undertaken in this upazila. Under this project, in July 2005, CDIP purified the water of the Titas River through natural filtration method and started supplying it to the arsenic-affected villages of Narsinghpur and Fatehpur. On December 31, 2005, the water of the Titas River was purified and successfully supplied to these two villages on an experimental basis. This activity officially started from January 1, 2006 and CDIP, along with the villagers, managed this project until December this year.
